Donating
Thank you so much for considering donating to Project Ix-canaan. Every donation received goes straight to benefit the local community in so many ways. The only salaries paid are to local staff, who work in the children’s centre and the clinic. The founders and, of course, all of our incredible volunteers, don’t take a penny in payment and are self-funded. Please scroll down to find the right donation method for you, from PayPal, JustGiving and GoFundMe to World Remit or direct bank transfer.

One of our volunteers has just opened a JustGiving page for us, which you can find here.
While the page is helping to raise funds for the Project Ix-canaan food parcels programme, you can give for any reason (just write in the donation message what you’d like your money to go towards if there’s anything specific).
There is also a GoFundMe page that’s been opened for us by a volunteer.
While the page is for the Ix-canaan food parcels programme (set up to support our community through the pandemic), you can donate to Ix-canaan in general there if you’d like. Just leave a comment to say what you’d like your donation to go towards if there’s anything specific.
Ways to donate – Sponsorship or specific donation options
100% of donated funds go directly to the program of your choice.
Operating costs
At present, our operating costs are roughly $1,500 (USD) per month. This covers the internet, electricity, water, maintenance, cleaning supplies, computer supplies, library supplies and the salary for four local people; one as clinic assistant and the others as youth development centre assistants. No funds are taken out for management fees.
Children’s Center
Funding is always needed for the ongoing costs of personnel, supplies, electricity and water. The library is also in need of books in Spanish for the junior reader and adult categories (novels and current literature are best).
Scholarship Program
This year (2020) there are 32 scholars in the Scholarship Program at all levels of education and in several different schools.
The cost of a one-year Scholarship averages about $600 ($50/month) (USD). A contributor can either choose to support one young woman throughout her schooling, or make a donation to the general Scholarship Fund.
Cement Floor Program
Many of the young children of the village grow up in homes with dirt floors. Children who have nowhere to crawl or play except on the dirt floors have higher incidences of skin diseases, parasites and general poor health.
For a donation of $150 (USD) a group of volunteers can lay a cement floor of 12 square meters in either the bedroom area or the kitchen/patio area of the home, substantially improving the long-term quality of life for the family.
Ways to donate – Physical donations
Please get in touch for logistics arrangements (it can be a little tricky!).
Items for the clinic
We really struggle to get donations in from abroad and rely on volunteers bringing them in. This has, of course, not been possible through the pandemic.
The main items we are looking for are:
- Prenatal vitamins
- Children’s vitamins
- Diabetic glucose test strips and glucometers
- Antibiotic Ointment
- Chlorhexadine
- Pregnancy Tests (available cheaply in bulk on Amazon)
- Children/baby pulse oximeter
- Antibiotics
- Laptops
- Tablets to show educational videos on
- Football boots in good condition
- Book tape to repair books in the library
- New footballs
Please get in touch with Debs or Anne for further information.
We are also saving up to buy the following. Please let us know if you would be able to help us!
- Notice board for the clinic
- Medicines for the clinic
- Cameras (the women’s group would love to do some photography classes)
In 2015, we founded the Asociación Bien Común (ABC) which is a non-profit legal entity whose aim is to contribute to the well-being, health, education, culture and integral development of the Guatemalan population, mainly (or initially) in Peten, through Project Ix-canaan. Through ABC we can accept donations and apply funds for project development, as well as funding activities related to our objectives.
