Ix-canaan’s Year in Review

It’s been a busy few months here in El Remate, and we are absolutely thrilled to be able to share some of the new developments we’ve achieved.

1. Early in the year, in collaboration with Eduardo Cofiño and Dentistry for All, we formed a non-profit organization called ABC Asociacion Bien Comun (Association for the Common Good).

2. Thanks to the volunteer house that is being supplied by an organization called Direction for Dreamers, we have had a big upswing in long-term volunteers. These volunteers come from all over the world and have brought a variety of skills and abilities to apply to the development of the project.

3. Thanks to the increase in medical volunteers, the Ix-canaan Medical Clinic has been helping more patients than ever. Stay tuned for more news on medical volunteers and donations in an upcoming blog post.

4. Our new website (complete with a new logo) has also been launched, providing a space where you can learn all about Project Ixcanaan’s history, goals and achievements. Find out more about the website and the volunteers who created it here. Let us know what you think!

5. This year, Dentistry for All invested in a house and property adjacent to the Ix-canaan Library, so they could open a permanent dental clinic.

With the Ix-canaan Library becoming more popular amongst the children, it had become extremely crowded. Dentistry for All therefore made the decision to exchange locations with the library, thus creating a medical area consisting of the Medical and Dental Clinics and a separate educational area, which allows the library about twice as much space as it had to better develop its programs. Now called The Ix-canaan Child Development Centre, it was officially opened in May (catch up on the centre pre-inaugration day here if you missed it).

From exceptional art and a beautiful garden to a brilliantly-organized library and newly-donated projector, there have been so many fantastic improvements since then that we’d like to invite you to read all about it here.

6. On the same property as the Ix-canaan Medical Clinic, Dentistry for All now has a permanent location, where they are operating year-round, and increasing their dental services to the people of the village.

7. Project Ix-canaan is now on Instagram.  Check out the daily activities of the project and life in the jungle … always interesting and picturesque!

Stay tuned as we update the new website to reflect recent development, as well as even more exciting changes and improvements in Project Ix-canaan

Hello Anne, I spoke with you some time ago about coming to visit in honour of Melonie Old.
I’m wondering if it ould be okay if we, my boyfriend, and I came in early April?
We would be able to help by sorting for office filing, painting, or playing games with the children.
Please let me know what would be the next step?
    Thank you, Lorraine
