A spooktacular Halloween at Ixcanaan!

Happy Halloween from everyone at Project Ixcanaan!

We couldn’t wait to tell you all about the fantastic Halloween party the kids enjoyed earlier this week (and another exciting thing happening in the near future – more on that later).

Some wonderful volunteers funded the kids’ spooky party and we all couldn’t be more grateful for the great fun everyone had – kids and grown-ups alike!

Volunteers Robin and Kelli brought masks, candy, and little toys for the Ixcanaan kids, as well as treat bags to fill and some super-fun Halloween sticker games.

They also brought several really great books for the Ixcanaan library, which is tended by our fantastic long-term volunteers.

At the party, the kids got stuck in with music, a trampoline, and Uno (which was a huge hit with the older kids in particular – they went for that right away!).

And we had sticker books, balloons, face painting, and costumes. Some kids came in their own fabulous costumes and others had a great time picking their own from the Ixcanaan costume supplies.

It was such a fun time and the kids had a blast!

We’re all doing great down here in El Remate – but times have been hard lately and we’re really in need of donations so we can keep the villagers’ health centre stocked and staffed, and the kids’ centre ready and able to provide fun and learning, as well as place where they can just… be kids.

We know times might be hard for you, too, and we’d never want you to give if you’re not able; but, if you can, please do check out our donations page to find a way to give that works for you.

Please consider making a donation to Ixcanaan today: each gift goes direct to the people who need it most. Ixcanaan’s founders don’t take a penny in payment (never have since we started in the 90s, and never will!). All donations go towards:

If you’d like your donation to go to a particular area of Ixcanaan, please get in touch with me (Anne) via email and I’ll see right to it. You could, for example, opt to sponsor a girl’s secondary education long-term, give a monthly donation for desperately needed medical supplies like prenatal multivitamins, or contribute towards our nurse, cleaner or kids’ centre staff wages.

Oh! And guess what – that exciting news? Volunteers here who work for SpaceX are gifting us StarLink internet connection! Can you believe that? They’re beginning work on it already and hope to have that up and running in a month or two. We’re very excited!

Your continued interest – each and every one of you – means the absolute world to me, the people of El Remate, and the wonderful Ixcanaan staff and founders, here in in our quiet little corner of the world!

As always, HUGE thanks go to our incredible local staff, dedicated volunteers from around the globe, and our magical donors; each and every one makes an integral difference for the families of El Remate.

Thank you for reading – keep in touch! You can sign up to join our mailing list below (we email only once or twice a year).

P.S. – there are great videos and more pics of the Halloween party on our Facebook page (and you can keep up with Ixcanaan antics at my Instagram – and the volunteers’ Instagram, too).
