Construction Begins on N.U.F.E.D. Kitchen
Construction began this week on the new KITCHEN that is being funded by Project Ix-canaan, for the N.U.F.E.D. Academy here in the village. The N.U.F.E.D. Academy is a technical institute for grades 7, 8 and 9 for the youth from this entire district. Classes are held all day, every second week, instead of half day every week like other schools, so that the students can minimize travel time and daily expenses. One of the big daily expenses for the students is their food … both snacks and lunches.
At present, the snacks are carried in by a group of young women, and set up on a table for sale to the students. The students, if they are able to afford it, take their lunches in local restaurants or houses who offer meals to students for profit. With their new cafeteria, the school Director expects to cut the student’s food expenses by more than half by offering healthy snacks and lunches at a very low monthly price.
The materials for the construction have been funded by Friends of Ix-canaan from Calgary, Alberta, and the labor is being supplied by the N.U.F.E.D Parent-Teachers Association with appropriate help from the students, who are learning construction techniques while supporting the builders.
