Cheryl Teaches at N.U.F.E.D. School
Cheryl Zvaigzne, a medical student from Calgary, Alberta, is giving a 30 minute presentation to each of the classes in the elementary school and the N.U.F.E.D. School (a technical institute for grades 7 to 9).
Today, she began first thing in the morning teaching the grade 9 class about basic nutrition. Cheryl recognized, through her work with the Puesto de Salud over the last couple of weeks, that many of the regions health problems are caused by poor diet … especially an overabundance of sweet drinks and sodas, and she decided to address the issue through this short presentation, which she also gives to classes in schools in Calgary.
The students pulled their chairs closer to the front of the room, and listened attentively throughout the talk.
Cheryl finished off with an easy game for them to play to help them remember about the 4 Food Groups.
Each child was given a picture of a food, and was required to place it on the chart in its correct spot.
The game will remain in the school for the teachers to use as a resource for other classes.
