Dental Clinic

Each year the dental group Dentistry for All comes to El Remate to work for a week or so, meeting the dental needs of the people of this entire area. Each day, patients line up from well before dawn to get their names on a list for the day. Dentists from all over North America volunteer their time, working hard in hot crowded conditions with equipment and portable dental chairs brought with them for the purpose. They do as many extractions, fillings, cleanings and sometimes much more complicated procedures as their time will allow.

Dentistry for All has taken over the former library to set up a larger and more permanent dental clinic, opposite the main healthcare clinic, which will allow these professionals to attend more cases more frequently and with better quality; there are plans for a dentist to be based here on a semi-permanent basis. The service is currently staffed by dental technician, Alex, who goes to villages in the region to teach dental health, start programmes of dental hygiene and give out toothbrushes.
