Mayan
Sites
·
Tikal:
The largest and most magnificent of all the Mayan city-sites,
the ceremonial city of Tikal is reputed to have been completely covered with
brightly colored stucco, and functioned as a giant water collection device.
· Uaxactun: Several kilometers north of Tikal, Uaxactun was an astrological
center where the positions of planets, sun, moon and stars were carefully studied
and recorded from buildings of precise alignments.
·
Yaxha: On the banks of Yaxha Lake, its impressive central temple
overlooks the ruins of nine plazas that are as yet unexplored.
·
Topoxte: A site on
a small island in Lake Yaxha, the entire city was built in miniature (including
tiny temples and stelae) as if it had been for the use of children.
